Clearing the Woods!
This is an exciting season at Wainer Woods!
We’ve been busy planning for these upcoming months of the spring and summer seasons. After several delays, paperwork, and the numerous strategic meetings we’ve gotten things lined up. Our long awaited start of clearing work is finally happening!!! We’ve had great progress in the last month. Things are looking very different already. We can see the north wall of the property. Exciting!!!!
Our spring/summer 2025 agenda was scheduled and is in full swing now. We will be working in phases.
In our first clearing phase we are concentrating on the 10 acres of fields
• Clearing out all invasive species of brush from 3 fields. Our main event field, our food forest field and row crop fields. We are preparing to get soil ready for next seasons planting.
• Removing all foreign debris from the main event field like metal, plastic, paper and glass after some 50 years !!! On our volunteer day, we’d like to concentrate on that. Please join us.
• We’ve already removing numerous dead trees, limbs and hanging vines. This is an ongoing operation we check the property daily to identify these type of hazards and schedule their removal.
•Trail maintenance is on going to maintain better footing on walking paths and trim back excessive growth.
•We’ve done extensive work on the laneway. It has been reclaimed wall to wall after it being non existent. This helps greatly with parking and better access.
• Along with soil prep for our food forest, row crop field and other plantings we’ve also inoculated some logs to start our mushroom farming operation.
• We are also going to be building numerous pruning boxes for cultivation of saplings. These saplings will replace the native hardwoods that were stripped from the land for centuries . These varieties that were used in industry from everything from buildings, to furniture and boats will become our new old age forest for centuries to come.
One may say we have a rather ambitious, rigorous schedule ahead. It’s a lot of work ahead for sure but I’m confident we’ll get it all done. As you can see below we are committed.
